Better Sleep Diary
Last updated: 1 October 2026
- Your sleep diary stays on your device and in your own iCloud account. We can't see it.
- There's no account to create, no advertising and no tracking, and we never sell your data.
- We collect a small amount of anonymous usage information to understand how the app is used and to improve it.
Who We Are
Better Sleep Diary is made by Gruffydd Johnston, an independent developer. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email hello@veglog.app.
Your Sleep Diary
Everything you record in Better Sleep Diary stays on your device: bed and wake times, how long you slept, sleep quality, tiredness, night-time awakenings, caffeine, alcohol, meals, exercise and daytime symptoms.
If iCloud is turned on for the app, your diary is also stored in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so it syncs across your devices. Apple stores and protects this data under your Apple Account. We don't run any servers for your diary and can't access it.
Anonymous Usage Information
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app is used. It receives simple events such as:
- the app being opened and a night being logged
- progress through the welcome screens (only which screen you reached, never the answers you give)
- the Better Sleep Diary Plus screen being shown, and which plan was bought
- taps on the other apps recommended in Settings
Alongside these events it receives general technical details, such as device model, iOS version, app version, language, region, time zone and display settings.
These events never include your diary entries, your answers to the welcome questions, your name or your email address. TelemetryDeck replaces your device identifier with an anonymised one before storing anything and doesn't store IP addresses, so we can't identify you or link this information to you.
Purchases
Apple handles all Better Sleep Diary Plus purchases and subscriptions. We never receive your payment details. The app asks Apple whether you have Plus so it can unlock those features. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Reminders
Daily reminders are scheduled on your device, and no reminder information is sent to us.
Exports and Reports
PDF reports and CSV exports are created on your device. They only go where you choose to send them, for example to your doctor by email or into the Files app.
Emails to Us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you and delete it when it's no longer needed.
What We Don't Do
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share your personal information.
- We don't access Apple Health, your location, contacts or photos.
Your Choices
- To delete individual nights, swipe them away in History.
- Deleting the app removes the diary stored on your device.
- To stop syncing, turn off iCloud for Better Sleep Diary in the iOS Settings app. To delete your iCloud copy, use iCloud storage settings (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage).
- If you live in the UK or EU, you have rights under data protection law, including the right to access and delete personal data and to complain to a data protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK. We don't hold your diary, and the analytics can't be linked to you, so in practice we hold no personal data about you unless you've emailed us. Contact us if you'd like any emails deleted.
Children
Better Sleep Diary isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If the way the app handles data changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
