Duckdive
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Duckdive is a dry-land breath-hold trainer for iPhone and Apple Watch, for freedivers and spearfishers. It is made by Gruffydd Johnston, an independent developer (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes.
In short
- Duckdive doesn’t collect any of your data. I never receive your sessions, personal bests or heart rate.
- Your training is stored on your iPhone. Sessions you run on Apple Watch go straight to your own iPhone.
- Apple Health is optional, and Health data never leaves Apple Health on your devices.
- There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Nothing is sold or shared.
Your Training Stays Yours
Your sessions, personal bests, training plan, custom tables and settings are stored on your iPhone. Everything the app does with them happens on your device: building tables from your personal best, timing holds and rests, playing sound, spoken and haptic cues, and drawing your progress charts. Spoken cues use the voices built into iOS.
The Duckdive widgets, Live Activity and Control Center control read a small summary (your personal best and next session) that the app keeps on your iPhone for them.
Apple Watch
If you use the Duckdive Watch app, your iPhone sends it your settings, personal best, custom tables and next plan session, and the Watch sends each finished session back. This happens directly between your own devices using Apple’s WatchConnectivity. It never passes through any server of mine.
Apple Health
Duckdive works with Apple Health only if you allow it, and you can change your choice at any time in the Health app.
- Saving sessions. If you connect Apple Health, each finished session is saved as a Mind and Body workout.
- Heart rate. During a session on Apple Watch, the app reads your heart rate to show it on screen and to record, for each hold, your heart rate at the start and the lowest it reached. These readings are kept with your sessions on your devices.
Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never shared with anyone, and never leaves your devices except through Apple Health itself, as described in Apple’s privacy policy.
When Information Leaves Your Device
- Your device’s backups. If you back up your iPhone, for example to iCloud or your computer, the app’s data is included like any other app’s, under your control.
- Reminders. Plan reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They are not sent from a server.
- Purchases. Duckdive Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment; I never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. The app is told only which purchases are active. See Apple’s privacy policy.
- Crash reports. If you have chosen in your device’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may share crash reports from Duckdive with me. These don’t include your training.
What I Don’t Do
Duckdive has no accounts and shows no advertising. It contains no analytics or tracking code, does not track you across other apps or websites, and no data is sold or shared with anyone.
How Long Information Is Kept
Your training is kept on your iPhone until you delete the app, which removes it. Workouts saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, including under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to ask what information is held about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. As the app collects nothing, I hold no information about you from it; if you email me, I keep your message only as long as needed to answer it.
Children
Duckdive is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date, and significant changes will be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
