Squeezebox Studio

Last updated: 14 October 2026

Squeezebox Studio is an iPad and Mac app that turns tunes into melodeon tab. It is made by Gruffydd Johnston, an independent developer (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes.

In short

  • Squeezebox Studio doesn’t collect any of your data. I never receive your tunes, boxes or settings.
  • Your library syncs between your iPad and Mac through your own iCloud account, which only you can access.
  • There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
  • Nothing is sold or shared.

Your Tunes Stay Yours

The tunes you import, your collections and favourites, the boxes you set up in My Boxes and your pinned buttons are stored on your iPad or Mac. The app reads a tune only when you open, share, drag or paste it into the app, and writes a file only when you export one and choose where it goes. Your settings stay on each device.

If you’re signed in to iCloud, the app keeps your library in step across your devices by storing it in the private database of your own iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. Only you can see it: I have no access to your iCloud data. Apple’s handling of it is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. If you aren’t signed in, or turn iCloud off for the app in your device’s settings, your library stays on that device only.

Everything the app does with a tune happens on your device: working out the fingering, chords and bass, drawing the tab and notation, playing it back, and speaking cues aloud if you turn them on, which uses the voices built into iPadOS and macOS.

When Information Leaves Your Device

  • iCloud sync. Your library goes to your own private iCloud database, as described above, and from there to your other devices.
  • When you share or export. A PDF, picture or MusicXML file you share goes only where you send it, using the share sheet or save panel your device provides.
  • Your device’s backups. If you back up your iPad or Mac, for example to iCloud or Time Machine, the app’s data is included like any other app’s, under your control.
  • Buying the app. Squeezebox Studio is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment; I never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. See Apple’s privacy policy.
  • Crash reports. If you have chosen in your device’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may share crash reports from Squeezebox Studio with me. These don’t include your tunes.

What I Don’t Do

Squeezebox Studio has no accounts and shows no advertising. It does not track you across other apps or websites, and no data is sold or shared with anyone.

How Long Information Is Kept

Your library is kept until you delete it. Deleting a tune or box removes it from all your devices and your iCloud. Deleting the app removes its data from that device; the copy in your iCloud stays until you remove it in your device’s iCloud settings (Manage Storage).

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, including under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to ask what information is held about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. As the app collects nothing, I hold no information about you from it; if you email me, I keep your message only as long as needed to answer it.

Children

Squeezebox Studio is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date, and significant changes will be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
